Reporting to Head, Underwriting (Singapore), this role exists to implement the Company’s Underwriting (“UW”) policies and ensure delivery of the agreed service standards.
The Key Result Indicators For This Role Are
- Leads the UW team service delivery to our business partners by ensuring the service standards are met.
- Supports the development of the UW team and effective case handling and professional service delivery.
- Handles case sign-off and jumbo cases in collaboration with Sales & Distribution (S&D) and with the support of the Head, Underwriting (Singapore).
- Support the overall team implementation of new initiatives to enhance the UW operation.
Responsibilities
- Appraises risks on applications with medical and financial decisions up to the agreed authority and assesses applications in excess of agreed authority for the subsequent review and sign-off
- Achieves UW turnaround within targets and with a quality service to the business partners.
- Ensure close collaboration across the team and manages resources and case allocation to ensure service levels are maintained.
- Works closely with Compliance, CMO, reinsurers and the case approvers to ensure a smooth and timely case decision.
- Proactively contributes to the case UW when necessary to ensure service levels are not missed.
- Builds strong relationships with business partners and collaborates with S&D providing support via meetings, presentations and associated events.
- Ensures timely and effective communication of the UW service levels to Head, Underwriting (Singapore).
- Provides regular UW meetings/clinics for business partners as agreed with S&D
- Supports Head, Underwriting (Singapore) with reinsurance activities, competitor and market developments and highlights those areas requiring a review of UW philosophy.
- Supports the development of the UW team by actively participating in internal training sessions.
- Handle special projects and other assignments as delegated.
Requirements
- Possess a degree qualification and having professional qualification; LOMA, ALU, ALUCA or CII will be desirable.
- Preferred Qualification: Experienced in HNW underwriting in international markets.
- Minimum 10 years of Life & Health UW experience. Having Life & Health UW Authority USD 5 million or above within the direct/reinsurance market is an advantage.
- Proficient UW skills medically and financially
- Experienced in working directly with distribution partners.
- Able to work under pressure and independently when required.
